Manchester United predicted 4-2-3-1 v Shrewsbury: two star men omitted

By North-west correspondent Alex Stevens

Louis van Gaal is expected to once again ring the changes for Monday’s FA Cup clash against Shrewsbury as Manchester United navigate a gruelling fixture list.

The trip to the League One strugglers is the first of three matches in six days, which also include the second leg of the Europa League last-32 match against Midtjylland on Thursday and Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Arsenal.

Van Gaal was unable to call upon a staggering 14 players for the 2-1 away defeat to Midtjylland on Thursday as United’s injury crisis reached new heights following the knee injury sustained by David de Gea in the warm-up.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is likely to return to the team after illness, while Morgan Schneiderlin should also start after being overlooked in Denmark.

Van Gaal will be wary of resting too many players against Shrewsbury, especially as his back-up options are unproven rookies, but he is likely to leave out a few regulars.

Anthony Martial and Juan Mata are among those who could drop to the substitute’s bench on Monday night, which could mean a first start for young striker Will Keane.
