Manuel Ugarte, Pedro Neto react to message from PSG star after Champions League win

Man United midfielder Manuel Ugarte and Chelsea’s Pedro Neto reacted to a message from PSG star Vitinha after their Champions League final win.

The final of Europe’s most prestigious competition pitted two contrasting styles against eachother.

Inter represented what has become the classical Italian style of playing, setting up in a 3-5-2, and their squad-building approach has been to recruit experienced players.

PSG, on the other hand, have built their squad around a young and vibrant French core, recruiting dynamic attackers to suit Luis Enrique’s fluid 4-3-3.

Many may have expected a cagey and nervy game, after Tottenham and Man United played out a tense 1-0 affair in the Europa League final 10 days earlier.

But thanks to a rampant performance from Desire Doue PSG won the Champions League 5-0, the largest margin in the final of the competition’s history.

Manuel Ugarte, Pedro Neto react to Vitinha’s message

Following the stunning victory, former Wolves man Vitinha, who could barely get a look in during his time at the Molineux, shared a photo of himself holding aloft the Champions League trophy on Instagram.

The Portuguese midfielder simply captioned the post: “Histoire” (history in French), alluding to the victory marking the first time in the club’s history they have been able to call themselves champions of Europe.

The post was liked by former PSG man Ugarte and Vitinha’s national teammate Neto.

Football Insider Verdict

Football is a series of sliding doors moments, sometimes you’re on the good side of it, and sometimes you join United from PSG.

Ugarte’s departure from the Parisians was necessary to fund the moves that saw Doue and standout performer Joao Neves join the club in the summer of 2024.

But whilst the Uruguayan was impressive during his time in Paris, their willingness to part ways with the former Sporting CP man should have been a warning sign for United.

Since joining, Ugarte has struggled to cope with the speed of the Premier League, losing his place to the aging Casemiro midway through the season.

There is still time for the Uruguayan to make a success of his time at United and win trophies of his own, but for now, it is clear who came out on top in that transfer.
