Marc Bernal sends message as Barcelona agree terms for multi-million sale

Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal has sent a message to Dro Fernandez following his shock move to PSG.

The 18-year-old made his first appearances for the first team this season, and had been expected to sign a new contract.

Marc Casado could also leave Barcelona in the coming months, with the Spanish giants struggling to keep their staggering crop of youth happy.

The La Liga club are expected to receive around £7.1million for Fernandez – a financial boost that Man United will be paying attention to.

Barcelona are attempting to sign Marcus Rashford permanently from the Red Devils, and remain in negotiations over a move.

Marc Bernal wishes Dro Fernandez luck in new message

The excitement around Fernandez was explained when the Spain youth international was handed his Champions League debut from the start against Olympiakos in October.

Hansi Flick had started the youngster against Real Sociedad in September, and was clearly convinced by his ability.

And it quickly became clear why, when the 18-year-old grabbed an assist for Fermin Lopez‘s goal in a confident 59-minute showing.

Fernandez had agreed a new contract with Barcelona, and was expected to be a key part of Flick’s midfield for the foreseeable future.

But in a shock turn of events, the teenager opted against signing the proposal and has now moved permanently to PSG, where he hopes to secure more minutes.

In a post made to social media, Fernandez explained that the decision was “one of the hardest” of his life, but that he has chosen to take a different path.

Bernal, who is also 18 and has recovered from an ACL injury to feature 14 times so far this season, commented: “Good luck, my little brother!”

What has Barcelona’s president said about Fernandez move?

While Barcelona are at no shortage of attacking talents, it does feel unnatural to see such a promising young player jumping ship.

Fernandez has signed a contract until 2030 at the Parc des Princes, and is expected to instantly become a part of Luis Enrique‘s team.

“It has been an unpleasant situation,” Barcelona president Joan Laporta told Catalunya Radio. “It came as a surprise because we had agreed on a different solution for when he turned 18.

“Surprisingly, his representative told us he couldn’t follow through on what we’d agreed to.”

Barca will hope that Fernandez’s decision will not inspire more young players to do the same over the coming years.
