Marc Guehi responds to Crystal Palace after latest Newcastle bid – sources

Marc Guehi has told Crystal Palace he will not sign a contract extension as Newcastle plot a fifth bid to get the deal over the line, sources have told Football Insider.

Palace have rejected four bids worth up to £65m for the 24-year-old and are holding firm on their £70 million asking price.

Newcastle’s move for the England international has been made all the more difficult after Crystal Palace accepted Fulham’s £30 million offer for Danish defender Joachim Andersen.

Steve Parish, Crystal Palace co-owner, has admitted in an interview with BBC Sport that the club would like to keep the centre-back but would be willing to let him go if a club came in with “superstar money”.

He said he did not envisage a scenario in which the club sold both of Anderson and Guehi.

Guehi captained Crystal Palace in their 2-1 opening-day defeat to fellow London side Brentford and was booked just before half-time.

The centre-back has been a mainstay for Palace since making an £18.5m move from Chelsea back in 2021, having made 112 appearances, 108 of which were starts.

Newcastle have been in the market for a new centre-back all transfer window with Dutchman Sven Botman yet to return from a devastating ACL injury back in March.

Some Newcastle fans even believe the club should make a move for Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix after Crystal Palace reportedly submit an offer for the Frenchman.
