Marc Guehi shares Eberechi Eze’s message after reunion

Crystal Palace fans saw two of their FA Cup-winning heroes reunite on England duty for their match against Andorra.

The Eagles’ rise under Oliver Glasner has resulted in the FA Cup and Community Shield being added to Selhurst Park’s trophy cabinet in quick succession, as well as several players becoming England regulars.

Dean Henderson‘s displays between the Crystal Palace sticks have led to calls for him to succeed Jordan Pickford as England’s number one, while Marc Guehi is arguably his country’s first-choice centre-back.

Guehi played 76 minutes for Thomas Tuchel‘s side in a 2-0 win over Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, and the Palace captain was also given the chance to reunite with one of his recently-sold former team-mates.

Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi together again for England

Crystal Palace’s two occupants in the latest England squad could easily have been doubled, with Adam Wharton withdrawing injured prior to the Andorra clash and replaced by AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Former Palace loanees Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah both missed out on selection, but Eberechi Eze was front and centre for the Three Lions after his £60million move to Arsenal in the summer window.

Eze started in the number 10 shirt and frequently linked up with his new team-mate Noni Madueke in the final third at Villa Park, but instead referenced his Selhurst Park bond in an Instagram post on Sunday.

Eze posted an image alongside Guehi with three ‘lion’ emojis as the caption, and the exit-linked Crystal Palace captain shared this post to his own story to show support.

Football Insider Verdict

Palace managed to prevent any other big names joining Eze at the exit door after his £60m move to Arsenal in the summer, but were just hours away from their captain Guehi following suit to Liverpool.

Football Insider revealed on 7 September that Liverpool remain in “open dialogue” with Guehi after his switch to Anfield collapsed at the eleventh hour, thanks to a personal intervention from Glasner himself.

Guehi’s contract expires next June and the January window is Palace’s last chance to raise any funds for their outgoing captain, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool will pay his £25million asking price in order to guarantee his signature.
