Marc Guehi to Newcastle discount deal on cards after Crystal Palace developments
Newcastle United are plotting to make a fresh attempt to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window, The Northern Echo has reported.
The Magpies made multiple bids worth up to £65million to sign the England international in this summer’s transfer window. In the end though, no deal materialised, and the 24-year-old has remained at Selhurst Park for the time being.
However, it is now thought that Newcastle will make another bid to sign Guehi when the market reopens at the turn of the year, with a greater chance of success since no new contract has been agreed with the Eagles and there are no indications one is on the cards.
The Magpies will also be reducing the size of any new offer as they believe his value has diminished given the struggles the defender and Crystal Palace have endured this season.
Newcastle right to make fresh approach for Marc Guehi
Football Insider Opinion
It makes sense for Eddie Howe’s side to make another attempt to sign the centre-back in the summer.
He is approaching the final 18 months of his current deal with the Eagles, and so that should help Newcastle to seal a deal for a lower price.
Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Emil Kraft are all now in their 30s, and out of contract in the summer.

The signing of Guehi could therefore give the Magpies some much-needed long-term depth in the centre of their defence.
The England international, of course, does remain a quality option in that role and there is a chance other sides will start to take an interest in him too.
As a result, a move for the former Chelsea man in January may well be needed for Newcastle to give them a chance of securing a key long-term target.
