Marc Guehi’s updated transfer plan revealed as he dismisses one option after Liverpool collapse

Marc Guehi has been at the centre of constant transfer speculation since Liverpool missed out on a deal to sign him on transfer deadline day.

Guehi underwent a medical with Liverpool before Palace pulled the plug as they were unable to find a replacement, with Oliver Glasner determined to keep his captain.

Since then, the race for his signature has only attracted further suitors, and it is now seen as inevitable that he will leave Selhurst Park in 2026.

Football Insider revealed on 10 October that Liverpool remain optimistic about signing Guehi despite interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

However, the decision remains in the defender’s hands given his contract situation and he is not expected to rush into a decision at a crucial stage of his career.

Marc Guehi makes Crystal Palace transfer plan

Football Insider revealed on 9 October that Guehi could leave Crystal Palace in January which would allow the Eagles to raise last-ditch funds from his departure.

However, the defender remains content to see out his contract at Selhurst Park and is currently focused on performing for the Eagles ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Guehi is not allowing himself to be distracted by talk about his future and instead has his sights set on making Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad and impressing for Palace.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “He’s very relaxed about his future, you can see in the press conferences he’s done with Palace and England.

Guehi’s focus at the minute is just on Crystal Palace, playing well for them and playing well for England ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

“He is determined to be part of the squad that goes to the World Cup, and to make sure of that, he needs consistency at club level as well.

“Look, it’s almost inevitable that he will leave Palace on a free transfer next summer. I don’t think there’s any chance he will sign a new contract.

“He’s content to see out his contract there, and a January deal could be possible, but I think it’s more likely this will run until the end of the season.

“In that respect, it will be an open race for his signature on a free next summer.

“Liverpool are still fully in this race for Guehi, but the player’s in the box seat right now and that’s why he’s so relaxed because he will have a lot of control over his future.

Football Insider revealed on 8 September that Real Madrid could offer Guehi as “huge” signing-on fee to convince him to make the switch ahead of Liverpool.

Liverpool plan to sign a new centre-back in January

Liverpool’s ongoing interest in Guehi comes amid defensive concerns of their own after Giovanni Leoni’s injury, and with Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain.

Leoni looks set to miss months as he recovers from what has been labelled a “devastating” cruciate ligament injury suffered during their win against Southampton.

As a result, Liverpool have been assessing centre-back options in the transfer market, with suggestions Slot could sign two new defenders to provide additional cover.

Football Insider revealed on 27 September that Liverpool could accelerate their move for Guehi as a result of the blow given their lack of defensive cover.

However, they are assessing a number of options for the position in the mid-season window and could be made to wait until the summer for Guehi.
