Marco Asensio drops Aston Villa Champions League hint after Brentford absence

Aston Villa striker Marco Asensio has taken to social media to drop a major hint on whether he could be involved in his side’s Champions League clash with Club Brugge.

The 29-year-old made the move to Villa Park late in the January transfer window when he signed on loan from French champions PSG until the end of the season.

Since then, Asensio has impressed with a number of his performances for Aston Villa, scoring some crucial goals.

However, he was absent through injury as Unai Emery’s side beat Brentford 1-0 on Saturday to maintain their push for European qualification again this season, though he will not be out for long

Aston Villa go into that game having won the first leg 3-1 with Asensio scoring a penalty, putting them in control of the tie ahead of the return fixture.

Although he missed the win at the weekend, Emery has confirmed that the Spain international will return to the squad against Club Brugge, something the player himself is relishing.

Taking to his Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon (11 March), the Aston Villa striker posted picture of himself smiling on the training ground.

He then accompanied that with a caption made up of emojis including a ball and a shooting star, indicating he expects to return to action against the Belgian side.

Football Insider Verdict

Aston Villa stand to gain a big financial windfall the more they progress in the Champions League, and so the return of Asensio will be a welcome one.

Given the lead they have and the fact they are at home in the second leg, they are in a very strong position to progress anyway.

However, that is not guaranteed just yet, and having someone with the ability of Asensio will increase their chances of getting over the line.

Even if it is just from the bench, the lift he provides Aston Villa is significant and so on the back of this they should go into this game with a strong confidence they can reach the quarter finals.
