Marco Asensio reacts to Ousmane Dembele’s PSG message amid Aston Villa transfer news

Marco Asensio has reacted to Ousmane Dembele’s PSG message amid the news that the Spain international could return to Villa Park.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a successful loan stint with Aston Villa, while Unai Emery wants to sign Asensio permanently.

He scored eight goals in 21 appearances for the West Midlands club this term, but has now returned to parent club PSG.

Asensio helped Villa reach the Champions League quarter-finals, where they were knocked out by his parent club and the eventual champions.

Dembele played a key role in PSG’s 5-0 victory over Inter in the Champions League final on Saturday, 31 May, as he created two assists.

He celebrated his side’s historic European triumph by sharing an image on Instagram [1 June] of himself and Achraf Hakimi holding the cup, captioned with a trophy emoji.

Asensio liked the post alongside PSG stars Vitinha, Marquinhos, and Bradley Barcola, who, like Dembele, made an assist in the final.

Asensio would be a top signing for Villa

The fact that the West Midlands club no longer have a seat at the top table of European football ahead of next term makes it more difficult for them to attract marquee signings this summer.

However, if Emery’s men can sign Asensio, he could prove to be an excellent acquisition.

Meanwhile, PSG’s Champions League triumph has shown that they can achieve great success without the former Real Madrid man’s services.

After joining the Villa Park side, Asensio seamlessly adjusted to the demands of the Premier League after previously performing well in both French Ligue 1 and the Spanish top flight.

If Emery’s man can sign the 29-year-old permanently, his signature could be what they need to land a Champions League spot once again next season.
