Marco Asensio sends farewell message amid ‘Aston Villa concerns’

Marco Asensio had a farewell message posted on his social media as his Aston Villa loan deal nears its end.

The Spaniard joined Unai Emery’s side from Paris Saint-Germain in the January window, arriving on a short-term loan until the end of the season.

Asensio made an instant impact at Villa Park, scoring several goals early on and striking up a promising partnership with fellow loanee Marcus Rashford. But that initial form has faded, with just one Premier League goal in his last eight appearances.

Following his dip in performances, Football Insider revealed that Aston Villa have reservations about making Asensio’s move permanent. The club are said to be concerned due to the potential financial outlay required for a deal.

With his future still hanging in the balance, Asensio dropped a farewell message to a former teammate after a confirmed exit from his club.

Marco Asensio pays emotional tribute to Luka Modric as Aston Villa exit nears

It was confirmed on 22 May that Luka Modric will leave Real Madrid after 13 years of service at the club.

Asensio shared a heartfelt tribute to his former teammate on Instagram, writing: “What a player, what a person, what a legend.”

Modric, who joined Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012, leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. The Croatian international has won six Champions League titles, four La Liga trophies and two Copa del Rey crowns during his time with Los Blancos.

While Asensio left to join PSG in 2023, he was part of the sides that shared that success with the Spanish giants.

His move to the Premier League in January initially impressed Aston Villa fans, who urged the club to sign Asensio permanently. However, with his recent dip in form and the financial demands of a permanent transfer, that move now appears unlikely.

Emi Martinez could also leave Aston Villa amid financial constraints

Asensio may not be the only high-profile name on his way out of Villa Park.

Football Insider revealed that Emiliano Martinez has recently changed agents, a potential signal that he is preparing for a summer move.

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson revealed that Aston Villa will likely need to sell players in order to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) before the financial deadline.

While letting Asensio go would relieve the club of his wages, Martinez could command a significant transfer fee, which may be crucial as the club navigates their financial obligations in the coming window.
