Marco Silva backed to accept Tottenham offer amid release clause reveal

Marco Silva is open to taking over at Tottenham this summer if Ange Postecoglou is sacked, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the manager has a release clause in his contract at Craven Cottage which would allow him to leave for a fee.

Postecoglou, meanwhile, is under growing pressure after an extremely underwhelming domestic season which has seen his side drop to 16th in the Premier League.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in March that Silva is among the leading candidates for Tottenham.

Daniel Levy is believed to be an admirer of the boss after he has led Fulham into a battle to qualify for Europe in the closing stages of the season.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Levy wants a manager with Premier League experience to replace Postecoglou.

Andoni Iraola opens door for Marco Silva to join Tottenham

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was previously thought to be the front-runner for the job after a tremendous season on the South Coast.

However, Football Insider revealed on Bournemouth are confident Iraola will sign a new contract to deter interest from the North London club.

This has seemingly opened the door for Silva, who has been heavily linked with the role amid an expectation that he would accept an offer if one arrived.

His current contract at Craven Cottage is set to expire in 2026, leading to the possibility that he could jump ship early with no new agreement on the table.

Despite constant speculation, though, Football Insider revealed on 2 May that Postecoglou could remain at Tottenham if they lift the Europa League later this month.

Carlo Ancelotti eyed amid Real Madrid exit news

As Tottenham continue to eye potential candidates to take over from Postecoglou, new names continue to be linked with the role.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Carlo Ancelotti could replace Postecolgou after his imminent exit from Real Madrid.

Ancelotti is likely to leave Madrid at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract, while Los Blancos are heading for a trophy-less season.

However, Tottenham will struggle to convince him without Champions League football while they remain 16th in the Premier League.
