Marco Silva shares Joachim Andersen injury update after Fulham blow vs Arsenal

Marco Silva has revealed all on Joachim Andersen’s injury after the Fulham star was substituted off against Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta warned Viktor Gyokeres of the pressure he would face in the Premier League, and the Swedish striker was kept quiet for much of the first half thanks to the Cottagers’ centre-back.

However, with 42 minutes on the clock, following a few minutes of treatment, Andersen was forced off the pitch before being replaced by veteran defender Issa Diop.

Fulham are already without Rodrigo Muniz, as well as Antonee Robinson, Sasa Lukic, and Samuel Chukwueze, but the manager’s injury list has just been lengthened at Craven Cottage.

Joachim Andersen could be sidelined long-term

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Silva explained everything he knew about the defender’s injury, having only had moments to catch up with him in the dressing room.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, he said: “Joachim [Andersen] has a hamstring injury. He felt something, and now it’s just a matter of time to know if it’s more serious or something minor.

“That will come in the next few hours, the next few days after the exams. It’s a muscular injury, so we need to realise how serious it might be. Joachim could be out.”

Calvin Bassey started the game on the bench and even remained there when Andersen was replaced, and Jorge Cuenca gave more than enough stability in the centre of defence.

Fulham transfer failures still haunting Marco Silva

A lot was said about the Cottagers’ lack of transfers during the summer window, and while there were a few late deals completed, the team appear to still be weak in some areas.

Football Insider understands that Nottingham Forest are just one of multiple clubs wanting to appoint Silva, and the ability to spend elsewhere could grab his attention over the coming weeks.

It has been a slow start to the campaign for the London club, which could also come into the manager’s thinking, especially if Andersen requires long-term treatment for his new injury.

Following his departure, there was a huge lack of Premier League minutes in front of Bernd Leno, but still, Fulham managed to put on a good display against a team fighting for the league title.
