‘Marcus Rashford among five Man United big names being sold this summer’

Manchester United are gearing up for a hugely important summer as they look to reshape their squad ahead of next season.

Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit 14th in the Premier League table after the Portuguese manager has failed to turn their fortunes around since replacing Erik ten Hag in November.

However, Man United could still qualify for the Champions League after reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they will face Athletic Bilbao.

The Manchester giants sent a letter to fan groups in January warning them the club are at risk of breaking the profit and sustainability rules (PSR), with top-flight sides only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider United could sell Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Andre Onana and Casemiro this summer to improve their PSR situation.

Rashford, Sancho and Antony are on loan at Aston Villa, Chelsea and Real Betis, while Onana and Casemiro’s performances at Old Trafford have been questioned at times this season.

Man United could get significant PSR boost

Borson insisted the future of the five players in question could swing United’s PSR situation materially.

He told Football Insider: “Clearly, they are going to spend some serious money this summer.

“But I would say that there will be a very distinct difference between the spending that happens if they are in the Champions League versus the spending that will happen if they are not.

“Then layered on top of that, you have what happens to probably four key players in Rashford, Sancho, Antony and Onana, maybe Casemiro can be put in that bucket.

“Those four or five players can swing the situation quite materially because they could get them out of a pickle.

“We know Antony and Onana are situations where they’ll make a loss probably or at best neutral if they were to move those players on, but if they have to keep them, then they’re just a cost that they can ill afford or that they want to spend.

“Rashford is obviously pure profit from a PSR perspective. Sancho, they’ve got a deal, but then will Chelsea pull out of it?

“In some ways, the Sancho deal could be beneficial for them from a PSR perspective because it may be that they can take the money from Chelsea and still get a deal done with somebody else. Overall, perhaps they can even make a bit more upside.

“But you know the whole thing will swing quite materially if they don’t get in the Champions League because when you add on the Adidas money, you’re talking about probably a £110million difference between qualifying and not qualifying. It’s big.”
