Marcus Rashford and Emi Martinez react to Pau Torres’ major hint at Aston Villa return
Pau Torres has been sidelined since early January after suffering a metatarsal fracture, but his latest update suggests he is nearing a comeback.
The Spanish defender posted a picture of himself in individual training on Instagram with the caption: “… and closer!”
His update was met with plenty of support from Aston Villa teammates, with Emi Martinez and Morgan Rogers responding with emojis. Lucas Digne and Rashford also reacted by liking the post.
With Torres and Tyrone Mings both dealing with injuries this season, Villa secured Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea in January. Aston Villa initially wanted Disasi on a permanent deal but a straight loan was agreed with no option or obligation to buy.
Aston Villa fans have claimed their season is over after Boubacar Kamara, who had been filling in at the back, also suffered an injury. Torres’ return will be a major boost for Emery’s squad as they prepare for a busy month ahead.
Unai Emery faces test as Aston Villa fight for Champions League spot

Villa’s Champions League aspirations remain alive, but Emery has faced criticism from Aston Villa fans following a crushing defeat to Crystal Palace in their last league outing.
He made a bold tactical decision in that match, changing formation and benching both Asensio and Rashford despite their key roles in a victory over Chelsea just days prior.
Villa’s inconsistency has been evident, with four wins, three defeats, and three draws in their last ten league games.
Currently sitting tenth in the Premier League, they will look to bounce back in the league as they prepare for their Champions League clash against Club Brugge on 4 March.
