‘Aston Villa dealt fresh Marcus Rashford setback amid Barcelona links’

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was enjoying a successful loan stint with Aston Villa before suffering a hamstring injury.

The England international struggled at Old Trafford earlier this term, but he has notched four goals and five assists in 17 Villa outings amid links to La Liga champions Barcelona.

In his last appearance for Unai Emery’s men, Rashford scored in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on 22 April.

He had previously helped fire Villa to the FA Cup semi-finals and the Champions League quarter-finals, where they were knocked out by Crystal Palace and PSG, respectively.

Man United star Rashford expected to move abroad after Villa loan move

Rashford is expected to miss out on Villa’s last game of the Premier League season, thanks to his injury setback.

Meanwhile, according to the Manchester Evening News [22 May], Ruben Amorim’s men have priced Rashford at £40million, but Emery’s side do not have first refusal.

The report adds that Rashford wants to join a Champions League club next term, but while Villa could clinch a Premier League top-five spot, he is expected to move abroad.

Villa may sanction Tielemans sale

The West Midlands club may be disappointed by the fact that Rashford might not move to Villa Park permanently, even if they qualify for the Champions League.

After reaching the quarter-finals this term, Emery’s men will be even more hungry to achieve European success next season, and the England forward is a quality player who could help them achieve that goal.

Regardless of whether Villa secure Champions League qualification, though, the West Midlands outfit could be set for a busy summer transfer window as they look to remain in European contention.

Meanwhile, former Villa and Everton CEO Keith Wyness has exclusively informed Football Insider that Emery’s side may sanction the exit of Youri Tielemans to avoid selling Morgan Rogers.

Tielemans has established himself as a key figure for the men in claret and blue since joining from Leicester City in 2023, making 98 appearances.

The Belgium international proved his worth when he scored the winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over Fulham on 3 May.
