‘Marcus Rashford given no written guarantees Barcelona can register him’

Marcus Rashford is simply trusting that Barcelona can get him signed up before the new La Liga season begins.

After Ruben Amorim made it clear that Rashford wasn’t a part of his plans at Old Trafford, the Englishman has now joined Barcelona on a season-long loan.

Since being frozen out of the side in December 2024, the 27-year-old embarked on a short-term loan to Aston Villa.

Under Unai Emery, the England international showed flashes of brilliance, but ultimately his performances and wage demands dissuaded the Villains from signing him permanently.

A dream move to Spanish giants Barcelona has given the winger the opportunity to potentially bag a permanent move away from Manchester United.

His contract with Barcelona includes a £30million buy option, should the Catalan side decide to bring him onboard on a permanent basis.

Rashford’s fate in the hands of Barcelona

The Athletic (25 July) reported that Rashford agreed to not include any written guarantee on his contract regarding his registration at Barca.

Rashford’s camp “will trust their [Barcelona’s] word” to register the Englishman in time for the new La Liga season.

The faith and trust from Rashford and his team has been seen as a “positive sign of his desire to join the Spanish champions.”

Rashford must be wary of Barcelona’s track record

Football Insider verdict

The 27-year-old will be ecstatic at the thought of playing at the Nou Camp and wearing the number 14, just like his idol Thierry Henry.

Taking a wage cut estimated to be in the region of 15 to 25 per cent highlights how desperately Rashford wanted the move to pay off.

However, he must be cautious of Barcelona’s recent history when it comes to registering players.

After heading to a national high court, the Catalan side managed to register both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of last season.

This particular scenario was part of the reason why Rashford didn’t join Barcelona in the January transfer window due to the club’s financial situation.

Whilst a show of trust from the Englishman will be well received by the Blaugrana, Rashford’s camp should be prepared in the event his registration falls through, due to the club’s unreliability.

If he is not registered in time before the new season, it would prove extremely difficult to find last minute suitors for the winger.

Otherwise, Rashford may be left to rot in United’s reserves as Amorim continues to build a squad that does not include the academy product.
