Marcus Rashford responds to Tyrell Malacia’s message as Man United exits loom

Marcus Rashford has reacted to a new message from fellow Man United outcast Tyrell Malacia as both players seek an exit route out of Old Trafford this summer.

Rashford is set to leave United once again ahead of next season, after a fallout with boss Ruben Amorim meant he departed the club for the first time in his career to join Aston Villa on loan in the recent January window.

Former United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 7 July that Rashford looks increasingly likely to move to Barcelona on loan this summer, with the forward preferring said switch over any other, while the Catalan giants recently made the Red Devils outcast their main transfer target amid similar interest from Juventus.

Malacia has been placed on the transfer list by United after a struggle for game-time also saw him head out on loan in January as he joined PSV in his native Netherlands.

Football Insider recently revealed that Malacia is wanted by Celtic amid their search for a new left-back, but the Bhoys may only be able to complete a deal for the 25-year-old if United subsidise his wages.

Malacia posts summer update on Instagram

Malacia returned to United training last November after 17 months out through injury, but was unable to nail down a place in the squad under Amorim, and his exit is seemingly a foregone conclusion this summer.

The 25-year-old has been allowed to report to pre-season training late [The Mirror] as he seeks a move away, while teammate Rashford was also given extra time away from the Red Devils’ Carrington base, then told to train away from the first-team players while he looks to depart.

Malacia clearly enjoyed his break, though, as he took to Instagram on Sunday (13 July) to post a number of pictures showing what he had been up to with the caption: “Felis esnan ku hamber i set pa hustisia; Dios lo satisfasé nan. Mateo‬ ‭5‬:‭6,” which translates to “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6” in English.

Rashford liked his fellow Red Devils outcast’s message, while other United players such as Bruno Fernandes, Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot also did the same, and Joshua Zirkzee left a red heart emoji in the replies.

Malacia would be a solid signing for Celtic

Football Insider verdict

Malacia’s last few years have obviously not gone to plan, with his lengthy injury layoff effectively ending his United career before it ever truly got going.

He featured 39 times in his first season at the club after a 2022 move from Feyenoord, but his recurring knee problem then kept him out for a year-and-a-half, and he did not even play once in 2023/24.

Malacia received criticism from United fans for his performances on his return to action last season, but it was always going to be tough for him to perform well after so long out, and he would definitely be a decent signing for Celtic this summer now his issues are behind him.

Brendan Rodgers’ side recently sold Greg Taylor to Greek side PAOK, and while Kieran Tierney has re-joined after leaving Arsenal, their current depth at left-back is definitely lacking.

To potentially sign a 25-year-old Dutch international on a cut-price fee, just three years after he was sold for up to £14.7million [BBC], would definitely be smart business, and they should push to bring him in if the financials align with their budget.
