Marcus Rashford to Barcelona: Deal hits ‘huge’ stumbling block

Barcelona have yet to make their minds up about signing Marcus Rashford permanently from Man United – and one

Sources told Football Insider on 12 September that Rashford has an agreement to complete a permanent move to Barcelona at the end of his season-long loan.

The latest on the situation is that Barcelona are not rushing their decision to permanently sign Rashford given his mixed fortunes in recent years.

The Englishman was exiled from Ruben Amorim‘s squad and needs to impress the Blaugrana to avoid returning back to Man United.

Marcus Rashford wages cause headache for Barcelona

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Catalan giants are under immense financial pressure which could scupper their plans to sign the winger.

Prior to his season-long loan, Rashford took a pay-cut to join Barcelona in an attempt to get his dwindling career back on track.

Yet, the England international will be demanding that his weekly pay rises back to around the £325,000 mark which looks to be far too high for the cash-strapped Blaugrana.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Barcelona have got him for the season. They will continue to evaluate him and if he does well for them, there’s the option there to make it permanent for £26.2million, which as I said, is a bargain.

“Probably the only question mark would be his wages because we all know Barcelona’s financial struggles over the recent years.

“Whether they could afford those huge wages of Rashford over a long-term basis, that would remain to be seen.”

Gareth Southgate Man United arrival to intrigue Rashford

Gareth Southgate could replace Ruben Amorim at Man United after an embarrassing defeat to Brentford on 27 September.

The Portuguese’s job looks to be hanging by a thread with Sir Jim Ratcliffe already eyeing up Oliver Glasner to be the new Man United manager on a shortlist.

Yet, a surprise appointment of the former England boss could be the key for the number 14 returning to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old was one of Southgate’s go-to men barring his omission from the Euro 2024 squad due to a dip in form.

That could see Rashford snub a Hansi Flick for a reunion with the ex-Three Lions manager and rebuild his credibility in Manchester.
