‘Marcus Rashford’s only option’ for Man United transfer revealed – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted European clubs will not come in for Man United forward Marcus Rashford due to his wages.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Saudi Pro League clubs are the only suitors with “the budget to do it”.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (24 December) that Man United are hoping to loan wantaway forward Rashford, 27, out in the January transfer window.
The United academy graduate has spoken publicly about his want for a new challenge after spending his entire career at Old Trafford.
He has notched seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2024-25 campaign.
Rashford, who earns a reported basic weekly wage of more than £300,000 at Old Trafford, is attracting interest in the Saudi Pro League.
Rashford tipped to leave Man United for Saudi in ‘Ronaldo-type’ switch
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “His wages are the big sticking point.
“There have been rumours around PSG, but the clubs in Saudi are probably the only clubs who can handle the wage situation.
“But you’ve got to think – given the issues around Rashford’s lifestyle recently, is it a move he’d accept?
“Is it something that would suit him? I don’t know.
“Saudi are the only suitors with the budget to do it – if they see him as a Ronaldo-type signing.
“He’s not quite got the social media side and hasn’t been as good on the football side, so he’s not quite at the level.
“In terms of Europe, unless there’s a big deal done around his wages – I don’t see anyone coming in.

“I’ve seen Barcelona linked but they’ve got no chance. Only a couple of clubs in Europe could do it.
“I don’t think Rashford has covered himself in glory with the way he’s handled this.”
