Marcus Rashford’s updated stance on completing Man United transfer after new complication

Marcus Rashford remains hopeful of completing a permanent move from Man United to Barcelona this summer despite potential complications.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a productive season so far in La Liga, having scored ten goals and provided 13 assists in 34 games across all competitions.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Rashford is happy at Barcelona and Hansi Flick has been impressed by his work.

The depth of attacking options available to Flick means the England international has been in and out of the starting XI, but remains a valuable asset.

Barca remain on course to win the La Liga title and have progressed into the latter stages of the Champions League and Spanish Cup, having already lifted the Super Cup.

Marcus Rashford hopes to complete Barcelona move

Football Insider revealed in December that Rashford is eager to join Barcelona permanently and is enjoying what has proved to be a successful loan spell.

That remains the case despite suggestions otherwise, with the 28-year-old having established himself as a key part of the side now and for the future.

A return to Man United has previously been completely ruled out, while there is interest from elsewhere, but the forward has his heart set on joining Barca permanently.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I think there’s a willingness from both the club and the player to extend their stay at the Camp Nou. He’s enjoyed a productive campaign so far.

“He’s helped Barcelona to the top of La Liga, they’re into the next round of the Champions League, they’ve already won the Super Cup and they’re in the Spanish Cup semi-finals as well.

“There is an option in there as part of that loan deal for Barcelona to make it a permanent £26million.

“Rashford is happy there and Barcelona are obviously very happy with his time at the club as well.

“Joan Laporta is a big admirer of Marcus Rashford and as I said, if he stays in charge, I would fully expect a deal to be ironed out.

“There’s a wish from Rashford himself to stay at Barcelona beyond this loan deal as well.

“So yeah I would think, although there’s maybe a slight obstacle if Laporta is not re-elected, I still think that Barcelona are keen to do this deal.

“More importantly Marcus Rashford is keen to do the deal as well.”

Could Barcelona’s presidential elections impact Rashford’s future?

This news comes despite suggestions the upcoming presidential election at the Nou Camp could complicate his situation and potentially scupper any potential deal.

Current president Joan Laporta is the favourite to be re-elected, but a decision will not be made until mid-March, casting doubt over their decisions in the meantime.

However, Football Insider revealed on 13 February that Barcelona’s elections should have little impact on Rashford, as the club are happy with his performances.

While a change in the club’s presidency would provide a potential obstacle, there is still a willingness from all parties to extend his stay at the Camp Nou.

Rashford’s performances for Barcelona mean Flick is keen to keep him beyond the end of his loan spell as he has become an important part of the side.
