Rangers director of football Mark Allen has identified three priority targets for the summer transfer window, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claims that the Ibrox transfer chief wants two dominant centre-backs and a marquee signing to play up front and spearhead Steven Gerrard’s attack for next season.

It is understood that Fenerbahce centre-back Martin Skrtel could reunite with his former Liverpool team-mate in Glasgow while Gerrard has also sanctioned the signings of Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor and Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.

Football Insider verdict

Rangers need a lot more than just two centre-backs and a striker if they are really going to improve the squad over the summer months. Gerrard has a lot of work to do to get this squad up to scratch after the last two transfer windows have seen major shifts which has torn the squad at the seams. This summer has to be the one where they get it right and are left with just having to make minor adjustments for the next couple of windows. It will be interesting to see who this ‘marquee striker’ will be. It pretty much means that Jason Cummings’ loan deal won’t be made permanent while it also offers a hint that Alfredo Morelos could be sold. The Colombian’s form has nosedived since bids went in for him in January and that is something that Gerrard and Allen must both address as soon as they can.

In other Rangers news, both the Gers and Celtic are in the running to sign this £100,000-a-week Premier League midfielder who will be available in the summer.
