Mark Flekken awful as Keane Lewis-Potter wows – Brentford ratings vs Aston Villa

Brentford lost 1-0 to Aston Villa as Mark Flekken made a costly error that allowed Ollie Watkins to score against his former side.

Brentford’s takeover has been given the green light, and owner Matthew Benham will not have been pleased to see his team lose against the Villains.

Following a stalemate in the first-half, Watkins scored against his former club to break the deadlock in the 49th minute, with Flekken failing to keep out an effort struck straight at him.

Villa thought they had doubled their lead just two minutes later, only for Morgan Rogers‘ goal to be disallowed by the tightest of margins by VAR.

Keane Lewis-Potter was fantastic defensively, and almost equalised in the 71st minute, with his effort striking the post.

VAR once again became a talking point, as Kevin Schade was knocked off the ball by Axel Disasi in the box, with the decision being no penalty in the 78th minute.

The result leave Brentford in 12th on 38 points, whilst Villa jump up to seventh, on 45 points.

Thomas Frank has been a revolutionary manager for Brentford.

Thomas Frank watches Brentford lose to a strong Aston Villa

Mark Flekken – 4

Exceedingly poor goalkeeping for Watkins’ goal, causing his side to lose.

Kristoffer Ajer – 5

Not a natural right-back and had a difficult game against Ramsey.

Nathan Collins – 7

Composed on the ball, and dominant in the air, the Irish defender was impressive for the Bees.

Ethan Pinnock – 6

Accurate passing and strong tackling were the positives for Pinnock, but he was consistently beaten in the air.

Keane Lewis-Potter – 8 – Player-of-the-Match

Lewis-Potter has replaced Rico Henry as the first-choice left-back for Brentford, and put in another really impressive display, totally nullifying Leon Bailey.

Bryan Mbeumo was lively vs Aston Villa

Christian Norgaard – 7

Really tidy passer of the ball, often winning it back himself before playing in his attackers.

Vitaly Janelt (off for Mathias Jensen 76′) – 5

Could not keep up with Youri Tielemans in the Villa midfield.

Bryan Mbeumo – 7

Newcastle are prepared to meet Brentford’s asking price for Mbeumo in the summer, and the winger was in good form for his team against Villa.

Mikkel Damsgaard – 7

Reborn this season at Brentford, despite being unable to find a goal or assist, still consistently supported Wissa in attack.

Kevin Schade – 5

This season has been up and down for Schade, and the game against Villa falls into the “down” category.

Brentford rejected January advances from Nottingham Forest for Wissa, and whilst lively, the striker was unable to score for Brentford.

Substitutes

Mathias Jensen (on for Janelt 76′) – 6

Got up to speed quickly after coming off the bench and put in a solid performance.

Ji-Soo Kim (on for Ajer 90′) – 6

Not enough time on the pitch to influence proceedings.
