Mark Goldbridge makes Viktor Gyokeres claim amid major Man United blow: ‘It’s not over’
Mark Goldbridge has not given up hope that Manchester United can still sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 season, scoring 54 goals and providing 12 assists in 52 appearances for the Portuguese champions.
Gyokeres recently vented his frustration amid the speculation surrounding his future, thanks to transfer interest from both Man United and Arsenal.
Before Ruben Amorim was appointed by the Red Devils, he effectively worked alongside the striker at Sporting.

Man United fan Goldbridge remains optimistic as Arsenal close in on Gyokeres
Man United’s lowly finish in the Premier League last season demonstrates Amorim’s need to strengthen his squad this summer, whereas Arsenal could sign Gyokeres to boost their title credentials.
According to The Guardian [14 June], the Sporting striker has identified Arsenal as his preferred destination over Man United.
However, speaking on The United Stand [15 June], Mark Goldbridge said: “I don’t feel like this Gyokeres, Man United story is over. I really don’t. If you’re asking me who’s the most likely striker to sign for Man United out of everyone, (Hugo) Ekitike, (Victor) Osimhen, and Gyokeres, it’s still Gyokeres, and that’s crazy.”
Football Insider verdict
Gyokeres should join Arsenal
Some aspects of a potential move to Man United must be somewhat tempting for Gyokeres, as he would be able to work alongside Amorim once more.

Appearances | 52 |
Goals | 54 |
Assists | 12 |
Furthermore, the Sweden international could perform well thanks to the services of Bruno Fernandes and the Red Devils’ summer signing Matheus Cunha.
However, it is perhaps no surprise that Gyokeres favours a move to Arsenal over that of Old Trafford, as the Gunners appear in far better stead to compete for major trophies next campaign.
The North Londoners have finished second in the Premier League in each of the last three seasons, while the former Coventry man could be the final ingredient Mikel Arteta needs to ensure that his side can beat the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to the top-flight title.
Man City have largely become a stronger outfit since Erling Haaland arrived in 2022, and Gyokeres may hope to have a similar impact for Arsenal.
