Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham v Liverpool

By Harvey Byrne

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has predicted a stalemate in the Reds’ clash against Tottenham on Saturday evening.

The two Premier League giants are gearing up to face each other at Anfield in a top of the table clash between second and fifth place.

The two teams could not be separated when they met each other in August with Danny Rose cancelling out a James Milner penalty in the second half.

Now, Lawrenson has predicted the same result once again, stating that an attacking Tottenham team could give the Reds an opportunity of showing an improved performance.

“I think this is a good game to get an improved performance out of Liverpool – a bit like the Chelsea game was last week,” told Lawrenson to the BBC Sport website.

“The Blues were one of the few teams to have come to Anfield in the past few weeks and not just sat with all their men in their own half in a 4-5-1 formation.

“Tottenham are good defensively and well organised full-stop, but their full-backs will bomb on and that will give Liverpool some space to work with, especially on the counter-attack.”

Tottenham’s last outing brought a hard fought 1-0 victory at home against Middlesbrough, while they were held by Sunderland in a 0-0 draw just four days before.

However, they are unbeaten in 11 clashes in all competitions, winning nine of them.

Spurs are league leaders Chelsea’s closest competitors with nine points between the two and they will be keen to pick up all three points against a Liverpool team who have not won a league game in 2017.
