Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham v Aston Villa

By Amir Mir

Mark Lawrenson has backed Tottenham to beat Aston Villa 2-0 in their FA Cup clash at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side face the Championship giants after their impressive victory against Premier League leaders Chelsea on Wednesday.

Midfielder Dele Alli scored two magnificent headers to give the home side a much-needed boost in the title race and end their opponents 13 match winning streak.

Now, the north London club will be looking to continue that form and progress through to the next round of the FA Cup.

Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson backed the home side to keep a clean sheet and knock out their opponents.

“Tottenham should make pretty comfortable progress,” Lawrenson told the BBC Sports website.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino fields a strong side as he has the option of selecting striker Harry Kane.

The England international has been in terrific form this season, scoring 12 goals in 18 Premier League and Champions League games.

Villa’s top scorer, Jonathan Kodjia, is away on international duty with the Ivory Coast as he is set to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations which starts on January 14.

Kodjia has scored nine goals in the Championship this season, including scoring from the penalty spot against Leeds prior to him departing the club.

Steve Bruce’s side face an uphill task if they are to cause an upset as the London club have won eight of their ten league games at White Hart Lane this season.
