Martin Keown explains why Tottenham have advantage in title race

By Dominic Toner

Martin Keown believes that Tottenham are in a great league position after some difficult away fixtures this season.

Spurs faced title rivals Chelsea and Arsenal away during November, suffering a 2-1 defeat against the Blues, but earning a point at the Emirates.

The north London club face Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United on Sunday, who have drawn their last four Premier League games at Old Trafford.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently seven points behind league leaders Chelsea and are regarded as potential champions this season.

Ex-Arsenal defender Keown claims that Spurs should be pleased if they can get a result on Sunday.

“For Tottenham, it is the third tough away game in the last few weeks having travelled to the Emirates and Stamford Bridge,” Keown wrote in the Mail. “If they can get a result at Old Trafford, it leaves them a great position as all these teams have to play them at White Hart Lane later in the season.”

Spurs safely secured passage into the Europa League knockout rounds on Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory against CSKA Moscow at Wembley.

United will be trying to qualify for the knockout rounds on Thursday night and will have a day less to prepare for the Premier League encounter.

The Spurs dressing room will be in good spirits after a convincing 5-0 hone victory against Swansea in their last league match, but will be wary of a dangerous United side.

Harry Kane has scored nine goals in just 12 appearances this season and will be hoping to improve that record at Old Trafford.

In other Tottenham news, the club’s midfielder should look for a loan move after a Pochettino’s snub.
