Martin Odegaard ‘nailed on’ to be new Arsenal captain after footage emerges – Campbell

Martin Odegaard “is nailed on” to be named the new captain of Arsenal, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old has “proved himself on and off the pitch” and “will be a great captain.”

Mikel Arteta’s side are on the lookout for a new captain after Alexandre Lacazette left the club upon the expiration of his contract last month.

Odegaard has led out the team in three of their four pre-season friendlies this summer.

As shown by The Arsenal Guns on Twitter (24 July), Mohamed Elneny handed the armband back to Odegaard after full-time against Chelsea on Sunday.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the gesture suggested Odegaard was likely to be named as Lacazette’s successor, Campbell said: “I think Odegaard is nailed on now.

“If Kieran Tierney was fit for a long stretch he would be the obvious choice. But there is no point in him being captain if he is not going to be fit. He seems to have a real problem staying fit.

“Odegaard is captain of his country. He has come to Arsenal and proved himself both on and off the pitch. He is first in everyday apparently because he loves to work and loves the club.

“I think he will be a great captain, I really do.”
