Martin O’Neill makes move to sign his new Henrik Larsson as Celtic line up last-ditch deal
Celtic have made a move for Bodo/Glimt forward Kasper Hogh in their efforts to further bolster Martin O’Neill’s attack.
As Football Insider revealed on Tuesday, Celtic have made contact with Bodo/Glimt over Hogh, although they face competition.
Norwich City are also expected to make their move for the striker, who has enjoyed newfound attention of late.
Hogh scored twice as Bodo/Glimt stunned Man City 3-1 in the Champions League last week, with the 25-year-old bagging his brace within four first-half minutes.
Celtic have signed Tomas Cvancara on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach this month, but O’Neill has already admitted that he wants further arrivals.
Celtic make contact over Kasper Hogh
In 2024, O’Neill claimed that Kyogo Furuhashi was the best striker Celtic have had since Henrik Larsson, with the Japan international having scored 85 goals in 165 games for the Bhoys.
O’Neill attempted to bring him back to Parkhead this month, but Birmingham City have decided to keep the striker at St Andrew’s.
The Northern Irishman had the pleasure of managing Larsson between 2000 and 2004, and can only dream of that type of player in his team now.

But while new target Hogh is Danish, rather than Swedish, he does share a knack for scoring goals with Larsson.
The 25-year-old netted 17 in 28 Eliteserien games last year, and has scored three in the Champions League this season.
Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Celtic have made an enquiry for Hogh, with the striker’s future to be decided later this week.
The transfer window will close on February 2nd, with the Bhoys having less than a week to conclude their business.
Martin O’Neill was in love with ‘marvellous’ Henrik Larsson
Celtic signed Larsson from Feyenoord in 1997, and the striker’s seven years at the club will never be forgotten.
With 242 goals in 315 appearances for the Bhoys, the Swede is widely considered as the best player to have ever played in Scotland.
Speaking about Larsson in 2001, after he had scored a hat-trick against Kilmarnock in the League Cup final, O’Neill said: “I think he’s a fantastic player, a truly great player and his second one was the most important goal.
“His third goal was absolutely world class. It was sensational finish and he just keeps getting better.
“I’ve always said that Larsson would score goals in any league and that last goal would grace any cup final at any given stage, in any century – he is a marvellous footballer.”
It would take some effort for any striker to warrant that type of praise from O’Neill, but the Celtic boss himself will be hoping it happens.
