Martin Tyler believes Tottenham’s Harry Kane is in with a shout of beating Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record.

Kane, 23, leapfrogged Everton striker Romelu Lukaku at the top of the 2016-17 Premier League goal rankings with four goals on Thursday night, as Spurs demolished Leicester 6-1.

Replying to a fan on Sky Sports Football’s official Twitter account, Tyler claimed Kane “has a chance” in beating Shearer’s record although he realises the enormity of the task ahead.

Kane moved on to 26 goals in the league this season, going two above Lukaku’s 24 with only one game to play.

It has seen the 17-time England international now find the back of the net 75 times in the Premier League in just 112 outings, and is only four strikes away from a Spurs century.

Shearer scored a huge 260 goals during his career with Blackburn, Southampton and Newcastle, while Wayne Rooney lies in second on 198.

Spurs’ number 10 will be hoping to add to his 75 goals on Sunday, in order to win his second successive golden boot award as Mauricio Pochettino’s side face Hull City away from home.

Kane will be keeping one eye on Arsenal’s clash against Everton, with Lukaku needing at least a brace against the Gunners to equal Kane’s 26 for the season.
