Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler believes that Tottenham’s form on the road this season cost them the chance to lift the Premier League title for the first time in their history.
Tottenham had to settle for second place in the league after Chelsea were crowned champions following a 1-0 victory away at West Brom a couple of weeks ago.
Following their emphatic 6-1 win over Leicester City on Thursday night, Spurs could end the season with 86 points, a tally which is the second-joint highest number of points achieved without winning the Premier League trophy.
The 71-year-old commentator discussed Tottenham’s league season during a Q&A session on Sky Sports Football’s official Twitter account on Friday afternoon and he mentioned that Spurs have fallen short away from home this season.
Tyler stated: “What let them down was the lack of away wins compared to Chelsea.”

Tottenham have played 18 matches away from home in the league this season and they have only won eight of them.
On the other hand, champions Chelsea have been the best team on the road this season, picking up a total of 42 points, winning 13 matches.
Only Middlesborough and West Brom have drawn more games away from home than Tottenham in this league campaign and these dropped points have ultimately cost them the title.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men will have the chance to improve their away record as they travel to already relegated Hull City in the final match of the Premier League campaign.
