Martin Zubimendi: Man City could blow Liverpool away to ‘agree’ deal January deal
Man City could swoop in and blow Liverpool away in a deal to sign Martin Zubimendi, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that City could make tee al happen due to Pep Guardiola’s Spanish connection to the _-year-old.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Guardiola will have more luck than Arne Slot in convincing him to move to the Premier League.
Liverpool had pushed hard to sign Zubimendi in the summer transfer window, but he ultimately opted to remain in Spain.
However, interest is now growing from the defending Premier League champions as Guardiola looks to solve his midfield problems following Rodri’s injury blow.
The deal could be a straightforward one as the defensive midfielder has a £50million release clause in his contract.
Martin Zubimendi will have to decide over a possible Man City move
Ultimately, this transfer is expected to come down to the player himself whether or not he’s willing to relocate to England, which he refused to do in the summer.
Zubimendi could opt to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on his future.
However, if Zubimendi does decide he wants a new challenge it is believed that there’ll be a lot of clubs who’ll be chasing his signature.

City had failed to win in seven games in all competitions prior to defeating Nottingham Forest, which has put them on the back burner in the title race.
Guariola’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier League but are nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool.
