Mason Mount superb but Amad dismal – Man United ratings in draw v Fiorentina
Mason Mount was handed a surprise start and made the most of it by running the show for Man United in their final pre-season game.
Benjamin Sesko was unveiled to Old Trafford after completing his move from RB Leipzig this summer.
However, Fiorentina were keen to spoil the party and took an early lead through Swiss midfielder Simon Sohm in the eighth minute after the 24-year-old was left completely unmarked from a corner.
But the Red Devils responded in kind from a corner of their own, as a Leny Yoro shove caused Robin Gosens to head home into his own net.
The match then went to a penalty shoot-out, with United claiming the prestigious title of Snapdragon Cup victors thanks to a winner from Kobbie Mainoo.
Ruben Amorim‘s side struggled to find a way through ultimately, but their performance will give them hope that they can earn at least a point in the Premier League curtain-raiser against Arsenal on Sunday, 17 August.

Man United held to draw by resolute Fiorentina side
Altay Bayindir – 6
Little he could do for Fiorentina’s opener and was largely untroubled by either Moise Kean or Edin Dzeko.
Leny Yoro – 8
Stunning. The young Frenchman forced Gosens to put the ball into his own net whilst also being resolute in his defending.
Harry Maguire (off for Shaw 73′) – 7
Positive and progressive passing whilst dealing with the varied threats Fiorentina had to offer up-front, will be key to United’s 2025/26 campaign.

Concerns over Ayden Heaven injury
Ayden Heaven (off for De Ligt 73′) – 8
Worrying. Had a brilliant game up until the 70th minute, when the former Arsenal defender picked up a knock and was substituted immediately after.
Amad – 3
Not a wing-back. Amad struggled to have an impact going forward and was a liability defensively.
Mason Mount (off for Ugarte 83′) – 9 – Player of the Match
Revived. Man United planned to accept offers for Mount this summer, but the Red Devils may change their stance after a brilliant game against Fiorentina.
Casemiro (off for Mainoo 73′) – 8
Shaky start. But the Brazilian midfielder grew into the action and began to show the form that made him indispensable in the latter half of last season.
Patrick Dorgu – 7
Offered balance on the left in a way that was lacking on the right, strong performance from the Danish defender.

Bryan Mbeumo struggles to have impact
Bryan Mbeumo (off for Dalot 73′) – 5
Mbeumo was starting his first game for Man United since joining from Brentford this summer and showed glimpses of his attacking threat, but lacked end-product.
Bruno Fernandes – 5
Fernandes has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia despite turning down an offer from Al-Hilal earlier in the summer. The captain had a difficult game, but it was his corner that led to United’s equaliser.
Matheus Cunha – 4
Ineffective. Cunha will likely revert to being a number 10 after the arrival of Sesko at United and will be back to his best, against Fiorentina, the Brazilian saw little of the ball and had a negligible impact.
Substitutes
Kobbie Mainoo (on for Casemiro 73′) – 7
Mainoo looked lively and keen to impress during his cameo appearance against the Serie A side.
Matthijs de Ligt (on for Heaven 73′) – 6
Important contribution by putting off Kean in the closing stages as the Italian striker went close to finding a winner.

Matheus Cunha crying out for Benjamin Sesko
Luke Shaw (on for Maguire 73′) – 6
Tidy in possession, will want to feature as much as possible with an eye on a return to the England squad for the World Cup.
Diogo Dalot (on for Mbeumo 73′) – 7
Dalot immediately offered more attacking threat down the right-hand side, allowing Amad to move inside.
Manuel Ugarte (on for Mount 83′) – 6
Not enough time on the pitch to make a huge difference, but kept hold of the ball well in the middle of the park.
