'Massive blow' - Exclusive: Hutton reacts to early Rangers team news v Hamilton

Alan Hutton admits it is a “massive blow” to see Rangers midfielders Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield ruled out of Wednesday’s clash against Hamilton.

The former Gers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor, insists it will be much more than just their footballing ability that will be missed by Steven Gerrard.

The manager confirmed at his press conference the senior duo would be missing after both playing in the surprise Scottish Cup defeat against Hearts on Saturday.

Hutton says he believes there is a lack of leadership around the Ibrox dressing room and admits losing two of your most experienced players is a bitter pill to swallow.

Talking about Jack’s absence, Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s difficult to replace him if we’re going to be honest. I don’t think Rangers have too many leaders. 

“I think he is one of them so to be missing him is going to be a massive blow. Arfield obviously out also, so another blow.

“Gerrard will be looking for a reaction, they’re at home, he’ll want his players to stand up and be counted.” 

Jack has played a total of 38 times across all competitions already this season, missing a handful of games due to injury.

Arfield meanwhile is just three games away from 50 appearances this term, having featured in all but one of the club’s Premiership fixtures.
