‘Massive blow’, ‘Recall Hagi and Lowry now’ – Rangers fans react to John Lundstram injury latest

Rangers fans are devastated by John Lundstram’s “nightmare” injury that forced him off against St Johnstone on Wednesday (20 December).

The midfielder was on the receiving end of a lunging high boot from Saints forward Diallang Jaiyesimi who, after initially seeing just a yellow, was given a straight red by referee Alan Muir after a VAR review.

Lundstram battled on for the final stretch of the first half but was hauled off by Philippe Clement, who revealed after the 2-0 win that he could be absent until after the winter break.

The furious boss claimed that Lundstram was yet another “player kicked off the pitch”, with the 29-year-old joining the Gers’ growing injury list which includes Ryan Jack, Danilo and Tom Lawrence.

Fans are similarly outraged and worried about the thin squad and have taken to social media to react to the “massive blow”.

This supporter slammed St Johnstone for the brutal challenge and claimed it was reflective of a huge problem in Scottish football.

This fan was very concerned about Rangers’ frequent injury setbacks.

One supporter called for Jaiyesimi to face an extended suspension for his horror challenge.

One fan slammed the “idiot” referee for only giving a yellow card to Jaiyesimi initially but wondered if 17-year-old Bailey Rice was available to replace Lundstram.

This fan called for an emergency recall of loanees Ianis Hagi and Alex Lowry.

This supporter was frustrated to see the “immense” Lundstram’s injury and was worried about the state of the midfield going forward.

One fan was looking further afield and feared what consequences Lundstram’s injury could have on the upcoming Old Firm showdown later this month.

This fan is adamant that Clement would be “God himself” if he managed to guide Rangers to the top of the table amid the injury issues.
