Massive CL feat means Klopp must act now to offer new deal to Liverpool assist-king
As shocking as this may sound, James Milner is a record-breaker.
After Liverpool’s 5-2 win against AS Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night, it became apparent that the Reds midfielder had bettered Brazilian superstar Neymar’s 2016/17 record number of assists in a single season in the European competition.
The 26-year-old had eight, Milner now has nine.
And with that in mind, and considering how well liked the former Leeds United and Manchester City ace is by Jurgen Klopp, with the midfielder’s current deal due to expire next summer, the Reds need to act fast to extend his stay at Anfield by another 12 months.
At 32-years-old, it would not be viable to offer anything more than that, but a year-long extension would ward off any potential suitors and keep the player happy for the foreseeable.

Milner is the ultimate professional and Klopp’s go-to guy when he requires a line-up that needs to stifle the opposition – a job that when given, he never lets his boss down.
A Premier League champion with Manchester City, the midfielder is exactly the sort of player the club needs around as the German boss continues to build something special on Merseyside.
After the season the Anfield attack has had, Milner’s 13 assists across all competitions pales into comparison to the likes of Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Nevertheless, he continues to be one of the club’s key individuals and he must be rewarded with a further 12 months on his contract.
