'Massive' - Exclusive: Alan Hutton reacts to update on big-name Celtic player

Alan Hutton admits he thought Celtic captain Scott Brown would be missing for the club’s Europa League clash against Copenhagen.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says it is “massive” to have the 34-year-old back from his injury problem so quickly.

Delivering an update before the game, Neil Lennon confirmed that Brown would be available, having recovered from the knock which forced him off in the first leg.

With Brown missing the 3-1 win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, Hutton admits he was not overly confident that he would recover in time but that it is huge for Lennon to have him available.

Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s massive, I thought when he limped off it was going to worse than what it was.

“He’s their leader on the pitch, everything comes through him, even the odd time where he’s maybe not playing at his best you can see him organising, the players look up to him.

“It’s a massive plus for him. You need Scott Brown.”

Brown, who is the club captain at Parkhead, has been a mainstay for Neil Lennon in their pursuit of success on four separate fronts, with 46 appearances prior to Thursday’s tie.

He has a total of 562 games under his belt for the Bhoys, with nine league titles, five Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups.

In other Celtic news, Football Insider has delivered a major update on the status of contract talks with Odsonne Edouard.
