Danny Mills has admitted he has been blown away by the job done by Marcel Brands at Everton since his arrival at the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds and England full-back says that the Dutch chief, who joined the Toffees in the summer of 2018, has implemented a definitive style of player he wants through the door at Goodison Park.
Last season saw Brands help secure the likes of Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina, Kurt Zouma, Richarlison and Bernard, while the current summer window has also seen a number of new arrivals through the door.
Mills says that the Everton chief shares the philosophy of many from the Netherlands and insists he has been a brilliant appointment for the Toffees.
Mills told Football Insider: “Marcel Brands has been a superb acquisition – not a lot of people knew a lot about him when he was brought into the club but sometimes that’s the sign of a good technical director.
“He’s typically Dutch, likes to see players play. Likes to see those principles that Dutch players have; technical ability, game awareness, game knowledge, hard work. The fundamentals of what football is all about.
“He’s been a fabulous acquisition and that’s what he’s done before. A tactical awareness is what he wants to see and that’s massive, to put yourself in the right place at the right time.”
Everton’s season kicks off with a visit to Crystal Palace on Saturday, with new signings Moise Kean and Jean-Philippe Gbamin battling it out for a place in the squad, Fabian Delph a serious doubt through injury.
