‘Matheus Cunha wants to join Liverpool’ after transfer confession
Man United are among the clubs interested in a move to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha but Liverpool are likely to prove a more attractive proposition for the player, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that there is “no way” the 25-year-old will remain at Wolves beyond the end of the season.
The Brazil international signed a new deal at Molineux following the January transfer window – but a £62.5million release clause was included in the deal.
Brown told Football Insider on 4 April that Arsenal are in the race to sign Cunha after he confessed: “I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things.” [The Guardian]
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest want to sign Cunha in a record-breaking deal if they can achieve Champions League qualification this season.
As a result, Man United could find it difficult to agree a deal ahead of their rivals and may be forced to consider alternative targets.

Man United join race to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha
Football Insider revealed in November that Man United are eyeing a move for Cunha and have had scouts tracking his performances at Molineux.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also spent time working for the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham, insisted that the forward’s departure is now inevitable and clubs will race to sign him.
“He’s definitely going to move in the summer,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s come out and said he wants to go, and once he’s said that there’s no chance he would be able to stay there – he won’t want to, but they won’t want him to either now.
“It’s just a question now as to who comes in for him.
“I think he’s a good player, there are a few question marks about his character but he’s a talented player.
“And there aren’t too many players like him about at the moment, even fewer that are available.
“He’s going to be in high demand, there’s no doubt about that.
“Arsenal have been looking, Nottingham Forest are there, you’ve then got Chelsea and Liverpool – and I’m told Man United are interested too.
“Whether they could do a deal, it’s hard to say, but it might be difficult if they have to go up against the likes of those teams I’ve just mentioned. He will want Liverpool ahead of Man United at the moment.”

Ruben Amorim eyes Hugo Ekitike signing
Man United are aiming to sign a new forward to bolster Ruben Amorim’s side, and the sale of Marcus Rashford is expected to free up significant room on the wage bill.
As a result, United are targeting high-profile targets, and Football Insider revealed United want to sign Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike.
Alongside Cunha, Ekitike is attracting interest from a number of top clubs across Europe and the Premier League – but Frankfurt are reluctant to see him leave.
A hattrick for France’s Under-21s side against England inspired further interest and a number of English clubs’ scouts were in attendance at the game.
