‘Matheus Cunha promised Man United number 10 shirt as new transfer update emerges’

Manchester United appear to be pressing ahead in looking to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha despite defeat in the Europa League final.

The Brazilian has enjoyed a stellar campaign for a Wolves outfit who were previously threatened by relegation before establishing strong form under Vitor Pereira.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Man United have already put money aside ahead of the summer transfer window amid their interest in Cunha.

Ruben Amorim desperately needs to add reinforcements to his squad, who have endured a woeful Premier League campaign and were beaten by Tottenham in Bilbao to miss out on Champions League qualification.

Man United will hand Cunha the number 10 shirt

Cunha has notched an impressive return of 15 goals and six assists in 29 Premier League appearances this term.

Despite the financial hammer blow of no European football next season United seem confident of securing the Brazilian still this summer.

Speaking about the Brazil international’s move to Old Trafford live on talkSPORT (25 May, 9.55am), Alex Crook said: “That one’s pretty far down the line. It wasn’t dependent on United winning the Europa League and therefore qualifying for the Champions League.

“So he’s going to come in, I think he’s already been promised the number 10 jersey.”

Amid Man United’s advances for Cunha, Amorim seems particularly keen on bolstering his frontline, as the Red Devils have also set their sights on Ipswich Town hotshot Liam Delap.

Marcus Rashford exit could cost Man United £8million

Man United’s eagerness to hand Cunha the number 10 shirt provides yet more evidence that Marcus Rashford’s Old Trafford days are over.

Having struggled in the North West this term, the England international’s loan move to Aston Villa seemingly handed him a new lease of life as he notched four goals and five assists in all competitions for Unai Emery’s men, helping them reach the Champions League quarter-finals and the FA Cup semi-finals.

However, his Villa career faced a major setback when he suffered an injury, and Rashford has not been able to feature for the West Midlands club since scoring in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on 22 April.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old is keen to join La Liga giants Barcelona, but the Old Trafford outfit may have to pay a portion of the forward’s wages to make him an affordable option for suitors in the transfer market, which could set them back over £8million.
