Matheus Cunha sends message after Wolves fan fallout, Bruno Guimaraes responds
Matheus Cunha has addressed the Wolves faithful on social media after causing a stir ahead of the clash against Tottenham.
A portion of Wolves fans were left angered by Cunha’s quickly-deleted social media post over the weekend, suggesting that a move away from the Molineux Stadium was on the cards for the Brazilian.
The 26-year-old has spoken openly about his footballing ambitions, wanting to challenge for titles and silverware, which has troubled some faithful supporters due to his impact on the team.
His talents were highlighted once again, helping to wrap up a 4-2 win over Tottenham on Sunday, 13 April, firing home in the closing stages and making sure to apologise to the supporters as his celebration.
Matheus Cunha wins back the love of Wolves faithful
Taking to Instagram (13 April), Cunha wrote: “Minhas coisas [My things]. Thanks Molineux, for the atmosphere,” with loving emojis and images of himself apologising to the crowd.
His teammates Joao Gomes, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Toti Gomes all liked the post, but it was Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes showing him real support, commenting: “What a player,” with love heart eyes.
Vitor Pereira surely preparing for star exit this summer after recent bust-up
Football Insider verdict
Vitor Pereira has done an incredible job since replacing Gary O’Neil at Molineux, almost certainly securing Wolves’ safety in the Premier League with four consecutive wins.
Pereira and his staff went “insane” during Wolves’ win against West Ham, knowing exactly what three points meant for his team, and the victory against Ange Postecoglou‘s Spurs was even more sensational.
Premier League standings | Points |
14. Man United | 38 |
15. Tottenham | 37 |
16. Wolves | 35 |
17. West Ham | 35 |
18. Ipswich Town | 21 |
While it will be all smiles for the staff and players at Molineux Stadium now, some supporters will already be thinking ahead to the summer transfer window, and understandably so.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Cunha wants to leave Wolves for Liverpool at the end of the season, and the likes of Joao Gomes, Rayan Ait Nouri and Nelson Semedo are all linked with moves away.
The manager will need a lot of support from the owners if Wolves are to survive the relegation race next season, especially if multiple stars are to leave, but that will not be on his mind right now with six games left.
