Matheus Cunha sends Wolves message after Ibrahima Konate ‘red card’ claim

Wolves forward Matheus Cunha took to social media to let the fans know they “We gave our all!” after their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool on Sunday (February 16).

The 25-year-old scored Wolves‘ only goal as they fell to a narrow defeat to Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring with an unorthodox finish thanks to a botched clearance from Wolves defender Toti Gomes.

Salah then doubled Liverpool’s lead from the penalty spot after Jose Sa brought Diaz down, securing all three points for Arne Slot’s side.

Cunha scored a lovely curling effort past Alisson in the 67th minute but it was nothing more than a consolation for the relegation-threatened side.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett believes the result could have been a lot different should Ibrahima Konate have been sent off for two first-half fouls.

Hackett also believes that Diogo Jota was lucky not to have received a yellow card following an act of simulation against Wolves.

Matheus Cunha unable to save the day as Wolves lose to league leaders Liverpool

Cunha has been Wolves’ undisputed best player this season, starting 23 of his 26 games across all competitions, scoring 13 goals, and providing four assists in his 2077 minutes of action.

Football Insider revealed (February 8) that the Brazilian is still likely to leave Wolves in the summer despite signing a new deal in January.

Cunha took to Instagram after the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool to share a video of his goal, saying: “We gave our all!”

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Keith Wyness has suggested that Wolves are in danger of breaching PSR and could be set to sell a number of players, including Cunha, to help appease their situation.

Vitor Pereira’s side will take on high-flying Bournemouth on Saturday (February 22) as they seek to put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
