Matheus Cunha superb, Kobbie Mainoo rubbish – Man United ratings v Leeds United

Ruben Amorim will have mixed reactions after Man United began their pre-season preparations with a goalless draw against Leeds United.

New signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon were handed their debuts at the Strawberry Stadium on Saturday, 19 July, with the manager choosing to ring the changes at the half-time break.

With the team only just getting into the swing of pre-season, it was a slow start for both sides, but Daniel Farke’s side had the best of the chances for the majority of the second 45 minutes.

Tom Heaton, at 39 years of age, leapt into action on multiple occasions to deny the Whites, with neither club able to break the deadlock.

Matthijs de Ligt becomes a new leader

Altay Bayindir (Off for Heaton 46′) – 6

Was rarely forced into action by Leeds. Would have preferred another 45 minutes.

Noussair Mazraoui (Off for Yoro 46′) – 7

Always cool, calm, and collected in defence, even when rushing into midfield to fill gaps.

Matthijs de Ligt (Off for Maguire 46′) – 8

Outstanding outing in Sweden for the former Ajax man. Dealt with everything well.

Luke Shaw (Off for Heaven 46′) – 6

Fans will love to see the full-back on the pitch again. Looked comfortable at centre-back.

Bruno Fernandes continues to pull the strings

Toby Collyer (Off for Mantato 46′)- 4

Far too quiet from the 21-year-old, who will be hoping to make a splash before the season starts.

Casemiro (Off for Ugarte 46′) – 5

Appeared to struggle with Leeds’ pace and trickery. Far too clumsy.

Amad Diallo (Off for Dalot 46′) – 7

Caused issues down the flank, spinning Joe Rodon early in the first half.

Diego Leon (Off for Dorgu 46′) – 6

A positive first showing for the teenager. Plenty more to come from the Uruguayan.

Bruno Fernandes (Off for Mainoo 46′) – 7

His usual creative self, but his attacking teammates were unable to apply the finish.

Man United supporters to be wowed by Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha (Off for Mount 46′) – 9 – Man of the Match

Dragged United up the pitch, buying several fouls and causing problems in midfield.

Chido Obi-Martin (Off for Hojlund 46′) – 6

Showed a bright spark in the final third, unleashing five shots in the first 45 minutes.

Substitutes

Tom Heaton (On for Bayindir 46′) – 8

Even at 39 years of age, he leapt into action when called upon.

Ayden Heaven (On for Shaw 46′) – 5

Struggled to deal with Dan James‘ lightning-quick pace. Grew into the game with his tackles.

Harry Maguire (On for De Ligt 46′, Off for Fredricson 74′) – 6

Stayed strong during his 30 minutes on the pitch. Supporters will be hoping that the substitution was planned.

Kobbie Mainoo (On for Fernandes 46′) – 3

Struggled to get involved properly. Missed multiple tackles and looked lacklustre in midfield.

Manuel Ugarte (On for Casemiro 46′) – 7

Unsurprisingly, Ugarte dealt with the pressure in midfield well, nearly scoring a winner against Leeds.

Leny Yoro (On for Mazraoui 46′) – 6

Never found himself out of position and remained level-headed in defence. Such an exciting talent.

Diogo Dalot (On for Amad 46′) – 4

A poor performance from the Portuguese international, giving away fouls and being too slow to first balls.

Patrick Dorgu (On for Leon 46′) – 7

Caused issues for the Leeds defence, nearly winning a penalty in the final 10 minutes.

Mason Mount (On for Cunha 46′) – 6

With the rumours surrounding Mount’s future at Man United, the midfielder made a good impression.

Bendito Mantato (On for Collyer 46′, Off for Fletcher 80′) – 4

Struggled to have much of an impact on the game in just 25 minutes. Won some duels, but his attacking game lacked.

Rasmus Hojlund (On for Obi-Martin 46′) – 5

Still looks to be struggling to impose himself on games. Threw himself at crosses and attempted to win headers, but couldn’t connect with the final ball.

Tyler Fredricson (On for Maguire 74′) – 6

A decent display from the young centre-back. Will be an important decision if injuries continue in defence next season.

Jack Fletcher (On for Mantato 80′) – 6

United supporters will be excited to see more of the 18-year-old midfielder. Created good chances.
