Matheus Cunha’s admission about Man United-linked star: ‘I hope he can come back’

Ruben Neves has recently been linked to Manchester United, with Matheus Cunha previously having a history with the Portuguese midfielder.

The duo played together at Wolves during the second half of the 2022-23 campaign, where they oversaw the Old Gold side’s survival.

In the summer, Neves would depart for Al Hilal, leaving Wolves as a hero, with Cunha later following the midfielder out the door for Man United two years later.

Now, the duo could be reunited, with Neves linked with a move to Man United.

Matheus Cunha loved it when Ruben Neves visited Molineux in November 2024

Despite their time together at the Black Country club being short, the pair clearly have a lot of affinity for each other.

Back in November 2024, Neves returned to Molineux to oversee Wolves’ 2-0 win over Southampton.

The former captain proved to be a good luck charm, as he watched the Old Gold outfit pick up their first victory and clean sheet of the 2024-25 season.

Looking back on the game, Cunha told Wolves on 9 November 2024 that he was delighted the midfielder was back, hoping that the returns could become a regular thing.

He said: “I think we need to bring him here more because he gave us luck! He was so important when I first came here and he helped me a lot.

“He was the captain at the point and he helped everyone. A lot of the guys who are here now, they came in when he was the captain, and he helped everyone.

“Hopefully, he’s happy because he’s always supported us, and I hope he can come back many more times to give us luck.”

Manchester United will be hoping Cunha can convince Neves of Old Trafford move

Going into January, there are plenty of other interested parties in Neves alongside Man United.

Therefore, the Red Devils will be hoping that Cunha can convince the midfielder of a move to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese international would no doubt be a coup for Man United, with the 28-year-old previously being fantastic in the Premier League.

With Neves already having connections with Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, it could help him settle into his potential new surroundings quickly and ensure he gets off to the best possible start.
