Matheus Cunha’s ‘lack of professionalism’ blamed on quality of Wolves players
Matheus Cunha won’t be able to get away with a “lack of professionalism” when he leaves Wolves this summer, according to Clinton Morrison.
Cunha joined Wolves on an initial loan deal from Atletico Madrid, with an obligation to buy for around £35million in December 2022. [Sky Sports]
Since then, he has played a starring role under three different managers and systems, including recent appointment Vítor Pereira.
However, one aspect of his game which has come under question is Cunha’s attitude, with former Crystal Palace player Morrison the latest to highlight the issue with his discipline at Molineux.

Cunha set to leave Wolves this summer
Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (5.30pm, April 6) Morrison said: “Cunha won’t be there in the summer, no chance he’ll be there in the summer.
After being asked if club’s would actually want to buy him after his incidents this term, the former striker said: “Yeah I do, I think he’s got the quality, I’ve spoken about this. I think his discipline is because he’s not playing with the quality of players and he’s frustrated that the calibre that he thinks he is [isn’t there].
“It is a lack of professionalism, don’t get me wrong. If he goes to a club like Arsenal he can’t be doing that because there’s literally 16-17 other top players.
“But at Wolves he knows he’s the main man and maybe he thinks he can get away with it. I think he’s still a top player… £62million, it’s a lot of money but somebody will pay it.”

Cunha has the ability to play at a higher level
Football Insider verdict
The Brazilian’s move to Wolves in 2022 was a confusing one at the time, with Cunha arriving from Atletico Madrid who are consistently playing in the Champions League.
Arriving at the age of 22, perhaps he thought he had the luxury of time in order to prove himself, before attracting interest from Europe’s elite once more.

Despite Cunha’s undeniable talent, his disciplinary issues have rewarded its head on more than one occasion this campaign.
The forward has missed five games through red cards, most notably after exploding in the previous game against Ipswich after the final whistle, when he was sent off for violent conduct following an altercation with Milos Kerkez during Wolves’ FA Cup fifth-round tie against Bournemouth.
This type of discipline is highlighted even further playing for the best club’s in the world, with the margins so fine, players cannot afford to be sent off in such fashion.
It begs the question whether the club’s who are linked with a £62million move for Cunha this summer will be put off by his recent actions or believe his natural talent is worth the risk.
