Matheus Nunes sends message to Rico Lewis after crushing blow

Man City midfielder Matheus Nunes has taken to social media to show his support for teammate Rico Lewis after his red card in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday (December 7).

Lewis, 20, was controversially sent off for a challenge on Crystal Palace defender Trevoh Chalobah just 16 minutes after the Man City youngster scored the equaliser.

The youngster clumsily attempted a challenge on Chalobah but missed, with the on-loan Chelsea star seemingly catching Lewis on the top of his foot instead.

Referee Robert Jones didn’t hesitate in brandishing the second yellow, rounding off a frustrating trip to Selhurst Park for Pep Guardiola’s side.

City have now won just one of their nine games across all competitions but remain in the race for Champions League qualification, sitting in fourth with 27 points from 15 games.

Lewis has been key to Guardiola’s plans so far this season, starting 20 of his 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing four assists in 1746 minutes of action.

He will now miss arguably the biggest Manchester Derby of Guardiola’s tenure on Sunday (December 15) through suspension.

The Portugal international took time after the game to show support for his young teammate, taking to Instagram to share an image of the two.

The current Premier League champions will travel to Italy in midweek as they face Serie A giants Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday (December 11).

City haven’t faired much better in Europe’s elite club competition, sitting in 17th in the new Champions League league phase with eight points from their opening five games.
