Mathys Tel, James Trafford react to Tottenham ace Wilson Odobert amid transfer talk

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and Mathys Tel reacted to Wilson Odobert on social media amid plenty of talk of a summer move.

Tottenham beat out Ipswich for Odobert’s signature last summer, signing the talented winger for £25million [BBC Sport].

However, the Frenchman endured a difficult first season in North London, starting just nine games in the Premier League, scoring once.

Odobert enjoyed a strong debut performance against Everton, but quickly found himself behind Son Heung-min, Richarlison, and winter arrival from Bayern Munich, Tel, in the pecking order.

But whilst his performances in the Premier League left a lot to be desired, the 20-year-old winger played a crucial role in helping Spurs win the Europa League.

Odobert’s stunning performance against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League last 16 helped propel Ange Postecoglou’s side through to the next round, kickstarting their campaign that would end with a first trophy in 17 years.

Wilson Odobert called up to France U21 squad

Despite failing to impress during his first season with Tottenham, Odobert has been called up to France’s initial U21 squad ahead of the youth European Championships this summer.

The winger shared several images of himself arriving to meet up with his teammates and coaches, and the post was liked by Newcastle transfer target Trafford and Tel, who is also in the squad.

Mathys Tel future at Tottenham uncertain after middling performances

Football Insider Verdict

Whilst Odobert will be a player Tottenham will hope to rely on for years to come, it remains to be seen whether the North London side will keep Tel.

Following his mid-season move from Bayern, the French forward struggled to adapt to life with his new side.

The striker scored twice in the Premier League, and once in the Europa League, failing to match the high expectations that came with his arrival.

But the Frenchman is still regarded as having huge potential, and Pete O’Rourke revealed exclusively to Football Insider that Tel was open to making his stay at Tottenham permanent this summer.

However, given Spurs’ uncertainty at the managerial position, the 20-year-old may elect to wait and make a decision once it is clearer who will be in charge next season.
