Mathys Tel reacts as Chelsea signing sends message to fans amid Tottenham talks
Mathys Tel has reacted to a message from a new Chelsea signing amid a new update on his own future at Tottenham.
Tel joined Spurs on loan from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window after struggling to make an impact for the German giants in the first-half of the season.
The French attacker was linked to Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea before he chose a move to the Lilywhites, and he impressed at times under Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham won the Europa League last month against the Red Devils.
Spurs’ deal with Bayern was a loan with a £45million (€55m) option-to-buy [Sky Sports] him this summer, but while that has not been taken up, Football Insider recently revealed that Tel would be open to a permanent move to Tottenham ahead of next season.
The North London outfit’s plans are unclear right now though, with Thomas Frank recently appointed as their new head-coach after impressing at Brentford, and the 20-year-old currently at the Under-21 European Championships with France.

Tel reacts to Mamadou Sarr’s Chelsea message amid Bayern exit rumours
He may want to make a permanent move to Spurs this summer, but Football Insider previously revealed that Daniel Levy will not pay Tel’s £45m buy clause.
Bayern director Max Eberl has now confirmed a new update around his future at the club, revealing to Abedzeitung Muenchen that the German giants are “talking” to Tottenham about a possible full-time move to North London for the 20-year-old.
Tel notched three goals and one assist in 20 games for Spurs last term, and he will want to build on that while playing against close friend and new Chelsea signing Mamadou Sarr next season, after he joined the Blues from Strasbourg on 9 June.
The pair played together in numerous age-group sides for France, and are clearly still close as Tel overlooked any potential rivalry with a a love heart emoji comment and like in reaction to Sarr’s Instagram post following his move to Stamford Bridge.
Sarr addressed the Blues fanbase with a message reading: “Hi Chelsea fans, The journey begins. Come on blues. CHELSEA CHELSEA CHELSEA CHELSEA CHELSEA CHELSEA”, along with six blue hearts.
Spurs should sign Tel permanently from Bayern for the right price
Football Insider verdict
Spurs beat off some strong competition to sign Tel in the winter window, but they did not get to see the best of him in his spell at the club as they struggled for form in the league under Postecoglou.
The French attacker did show some signs of the talent that saw Bayern fork out around £25m [Daily Mail] for his services from Rennes in 2022 when he was just 17-years-old, but Spurs will now only sign Tel if they can renegotiate a more reasonable price tag with Bayern, as revealed by scout Mick Brown to Football Insider.
If they can work out a compromise that chairman Levy and new head-coach Frank are happy with, then it makes complete sense to bring him in on a full-time deal.
Appearances | Starts | Goals | Assists |
20 | 14 | 3 | 1 |
The 20-year-old is highly-rated across Europe, and has the potential to become a hugely important player for Spurs in both the Premier League and Champions League over the coming years, with ex-boss Postecoglou previously praising him as a talent who can “develop into top footballer” in the future.
Their forward options are already lacking as it stands, and his signing should be one that is made a priority as long as it is not a fee that comes close to the £45m clause in his initial loan deal.
