‘Mathys Tel seizes control of Tottenham deal despite £10m Spurs outlay’
Mathys Tel will have the final say on whether Tottenham exercise the buy option in his loan deal from Bayern Munich, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Tel initially appeared to reject a deal to join Spurs but joined the club on deadline day in a loan deal that includes an option to buy [Sky Sports].
The young Frenchman had attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, before ultimately choosing Tottenham.
However, there has been some suspicion surrounding the structure of the deal and whether it leaves Spurs in a vulnerable position.
Plettenberg wrote on X that Tel ensured he would have a “decisive” role in the final decision, requesting that the option to buy remain non-mandatory. He reported that Spurs have committed to a combined £10 million in loan fees and wages for the youngster but still the player has the deciding vote on what happens in the summer.
Tottenham take a gamble on Mathys Tel with this deal
Football Insider Verdict
The talented young forward has struggled for opportunities at Bayern Munich under manager Vincent Kompany.
However, the 19-year-old, who can operate on either wing or as a central forward, has shown promise with 12 goals and six assists in his first 60 Bundesliga appearances.

It has been an injury-ravaged season for Ange Postecoglou, but the club backed him in the transfer window, securing a few key additions before the deadline.
Kevin Danso arrived from French side Lens, while goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has already impressed fans with his performances.
The deal for Tel, however, puts Spurs in a precarious position. If he performs well, he could simply return to Bayern or attract interest from other clubs, leaving Tottenham without a long-term guarantee.
That said, both the club and Postecoglou shifted Tel’s initial stance, and he is now an part of the squad when it looked like he had rejected them.
Spurs’ £10m outlay for a loan deal highlights their belief in Tel’s potential. If he thrives in North London, the hope is that he will remain at the club beyond this season.
