Mathys Tel sends ‘see you’ message after Tottenham development

Mathys Tel has sent a message to Tottenham supporters following the latest developments at the club.

The attacker joined Spurs on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season in the January transfer window, in a deal that includes an option to buy.

However, the 19-year-old has struggled to make a consistent impact on the pitch, and some of his antics off it have already caused questions about whether Tottenham will sign Tel permanently.

More recently, Tottenham fans were unhappy with Tel for denying Brennan Johnson a hat-trick by taking their stoppage time penalty in the 3-1 win over Southampton on Sunday (6 April).

Mathys Tel still keen to make a mark for Spurs

Despite those issues, Tel once again featured for Ange Postecoglou‘s side on Thursday night (10 April) in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final.

Tottenham hosted German side Eintracht Frankfurt in that match, and found themselves trailing to an excellent strike from Man United and Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike after just six minutes.

Spurs though would hit back to level thanks to a brilliant flicked finish from Pedro Porro just 20 minutes later.

That was enough to ensure both sides will go into the second leg in Germany next week with the tie level, and Tel is already looking forward to that.

Taking to his Instagram story after the game, the attacker – who came on in the 79th minute and picked up a yellow card shortly after – simply wrote: “See you next week”.

Prior to that, Tottenham are due to travel to Molineux to face Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon (13 April).

Football Insider Verdict

It has been reported that the cost of making Tel’s move to North London permanent would be around £50million [Guardian].

So far, the 19-year-old doesn’t really seem to have done enough to justify Tottenham spending that money on him, with just two goals in ten appearances in all competitions.

Given he had fallen done the pecking order and was struggling to play with Bayern though, Tel himself may want to secure a permanent move elsewhere in the summer.

If that is to be Tottenham, then it seems as though he is going to have to improve his output and win over some sceptical supporters or he will be saying “see you” permanently at the end of the campaign.

Helping them to succeed in the Europa League, their last chance of silverware and European qualification for this season, would be a good way of ensuring he doesn’t need to do that.
