Mathys Tel sends Tottenham message after what happened vs Villa

Tottenham forward Mathys Tel took to social media to send a message to the fans after scoring his first goal in their 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday (February 9).

The 19-year-old made his first Tottenham start since joining on loan from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, scoring in added time but ultimately falling to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

Jacob Ramsey opened the scoring for the home side in the second minute, with Morgan Rogers providing the assist as Emery’s side made a lightning quick start.

Tottenham fans were left raging at January signing Antonin Kinsky after he appeared to fumble his attempted save from Ramsey’s shot.

Rogers, who has established himself as a key player for Villa this season, then got in on the action in the 65th minute, all but securing Villa’s spot in the next round.

Tel got his goal in added time, but it was too little too late and Spurs were eliminated from the FA Cup just days after suffering the same fate in the League Cup.

Mathy Tel thankful despite Tottenham falling to FA Cup defeat vs Aston Villa

Tel is already making an impression at Tottenham, starting one of his two games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing zero assists in his 135 minutes of action.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson belives Tel could be the long-term successor to Heung-Min Son and the club will do everything they can to sign him permanently at the end of theseason.

Football Insider revealed (February 9) that Tottenham have grown concerned about the performances of Son Heung-min so far this season.

Tel took to Instagram after the defeat to Villa to address the fans, saying: “Thank you to all the fans for the support.”

Spurs fans were furious after 4-0 League Cup loss to Liverpool and now the defeat to Villa is unlikely to do Ange Postecoglu any favours as they continue to struggle.

The Australian will be hoping he can earn some credit back as Tottenham host fellow strugglers Man United on Sunday (February 16).
